Cacti in southern Europe are the inspiration for these jolly garden sculptures, intended for indoor or outdoor use. The mundane prickly pear becomes a patio sculpture which can double as a bowl to serve olives or peanuts while you sip a glass of wine. Cacti sometimes seem to exhibit humanoid qualities and I never tire of exploring their generously proportioned, solid and bulbous forms. They seem like fun plants and I seek to capture their humorous side.

These plant forms range from 40 – 70cm in height. They are coloured with chromium, copper and cobalt oxides and covered with a matt glaze, with the addition of low fired glazes or high fired porcelain for the flowers. They are generally happy to live outdoors but should be protected from frost and snow.
